Open on Mondays during the holidays of Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP) and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) as well.
Open until 3:00 pm on December 31st.
Closed from the 2nd Sunday of Advent until December 25th, on January 1st, from the end of the Christmas holidays until January 31st, as well as during Carnival from Fat Thursday until Shrove Tuesday.
From the direction of Cologne via the A61, take the exit at Mendig/Maria Laach (AS Mendig/Maria Laach) and merge onto the B262. Follow this road to the left towards Mendig. After approximately 50 meters, turn left towards Mendig/Lava-Dome/Lavakeller. After about 1 kilometer, you will see the Lava-Dome below the brewery.
From the direction of Koblenz via the A61, take the exit at Mendig/Maria Laach (AS Mendig/Maria Laach), turn left towards Mendig onto the B262. After approximately 300 meters, turn left towards Mendig/Lava-Dome/Lavakeller. After about 1 kilometer, you will see the Lava-Dome below the brewery.
Coming from the A48, take the exit at Mayen (AS Mayen) and after about 140 meters, enter the roundabout. Leave the roundabout towards Mayen on the B262. After approximately 3.5 kilometers, exit this road to the right towards Mendig. Follow this road and after 8 kilometers, take the exit towards Mendig (opposite Mc Donald’s). Turn right towards Mendig/Lava-Dome/Lavakeller. After about 1 kilometer straight ahead, you will see the Lava-Dome below the brewery.

Visits
Visits to the lava cellar are only possible as part of a guided tour. These tours last approximately 1 hour and are scheduled. Registrations are done exclusively on-site, as a day guest at the Lava-Dome Museum.
Public tours for individual day guests in the lava cellar take place from Tuesday to Friday at 1:30 pm, on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, on so-called “bridge” Fridays, as well as during the holidays of Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP) and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) daily (including Mondays) at 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm, and 3:00 pm. Reservations for our public cellar tours are not possible.
In addition to the public tours, we offer private groups the opportunity to visit the lava cellar with a personal guide. Combined with a prior tour of the museum, it’s a successful event for companies, schools, family celebrations, etc. Please send inquiries to info@lavadome.de.
Important information for a reservation includes: date and time of the desired tour, number of people, age of participating children, your address, and telephone number.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The lava cellar maintains a constant temperature of 8-9°Celsius. Please remember to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear.
Disabled visitors
Both the Lava Dome and the Lava Caverns are suitable for people with disabilities and are equipped with lifts. Depending on the size and type of wheelchairs, there may be limitations within the Lava Caverns.
No dogs
We ask for your understanding that dogs of all sizes are not permitted to enter either the museum or the Lava Caverns. Guide dogs are the only exception to this rule.

Audio Guide
Our foreign guests have access to a modern audio guide system at the Lava-Dome. The user-friendly and self-explanatory menu navigation makes it very easy to explore our museum. By pressing the buttons, detailed explanations about display boards and exhibits are provided in either English, French, or Dutch. For German-speaking guests with visual impairments, our audio guide can also be provided.
This service is free of charge. The audio guides are provided upon depositing a security (e.g., car keys).
